Iron Duke is a tribute to Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington (1769 � 1852). Perfumer Julie Dunkley creates a powerful fragrance with animal depth, an olfactory apparition of the famous horseman, warrior politician and tailor pioneer. The sweet tobacco powder is an interesting allusion to the striking vegetation of England and evokes a tasty gourmandise. Metal and alcohol resonate together, two acidic and tannic swords in the air. The animal notes provide a stable base for the action-packed elements of this fragrance, the steaming, salty sweat of the steeds that soak and rationalize the clamor. Saddle soap creates a layer of velvet skin that makes the Iron Duke feel firmer and less firm. The leather and gunpowder illustrate a high-speed chase; a cloud of weapon smoke reverberating against the tense drum of a skinned armor as the leather rider rushes through the bonfire and advances into battle.
